LONG LEG RADIOGRAPH

Click on the image for a closer look

An anteroposterior (AP) pelvic radiograph suggests that there is significant shortening of the right leg compared to the left.

A long leg radiograph reveals that the femur had overgrown to compensate for the dysplastic deformity and in fact the right leg is only about 1cm shorter than the left.

Learning Points

  • Long leg radiographs with the patient standing is a useful tool to determine the cause of leg length discrepancy.
